South Africa’s Afrikaans Accent is SEXY!

Lekker man! It’s official: South Africa’s Afrikaans accent has been voted the second sexiest accent in the world. Out of more than 7,000 languages globally, 1.5 million Enjoy Travel readers awarded Afrikaans second place due to its unique tones and slang. First place went to New Zealand’s Kiwi accent.

Here is the ranking of the sexiest accents:

  1. New Zealand (Kiwi)
  2. South Africa (Afrikaans)
  3. Ireland (Irish)
  4. Italy (Italian)
  5. Australia (Australian)

And the rest of the top 10:

  1. Scotland (Scottish)
  2. France (French)
  3. Spain (Spanish)
  4. Southern United States (Texas, South Carolina, Louisiana)
  5. Brazil (Brazilian Portuguese)

Interestingly, a recent global study conducted by MinimumDepositCasinos.org explored perceptions of different accents around the world. The study surveyed 5,000 participants to find out which national accent is considered the friendliest. Here are some key findings:

“…slow down, take a closer look, and appreciate the richness that lies just beyond the obvious.”

South Africa: ranked 12th for friendliest accents globally, with 1.6% of participants identifying the Afrikaans accent as the friendliest.
United States: Americans are the most likely to be considered friendly, with 19.5% of participants rating the American accent as the friendliest.
Canada: despite its similarity to standard American English, the Canadian accent received fewer votes (8.7%) than the American accent.
United Kingdom: the British accent came in second place, with 13.6% of participants considering it friendly. This aligns with another study that found the British accent to be the most popular globally, with 45% of participants liking to hear their native language spoken with a British twist.
